CBG Hemp Cultivars: The Future of Cannabinoid Production
CBG Hemp Cultivars are specially selected varieties of Cannabis spp. bred to produce high levels of CBG (cannabigerol), the precursor cannabinoid, while adhering to legal requirements for Industrial Hemp (<0.3% THC).
These innovative cultivars are changing the landscape of hemp cultivation, allowing for the production of premium CBG Hemp Flower and CBG Hemp Biomass. These raw materials are ideal for extraction processes, yielding high-quality CBG hemp oil, which can be further refined into CBG distillate and CBG isolate.
While many traditional CBD hemp genetics and industrial hemp varieties typically contain low levels of CBG (usually <1%), our advanced high CBG hemp genetics are specifically designed to deliver bountiful harvests of superior CBG flower and hemp biomass for efficient processing into CBG extracts.
Quality CBG Hemp Seeds and Seedlings
At Rhizo Sciences, we collaborate with leading CBG hemp seed breeders in the USA to ensure that farmers can cultivate their crops with top-quality, proven hemp seedlings and starts. Our commitment to quality means you’ll start with the best foundation for your hemp farming endeavors.
Minimal THC Levels in CBG Hemp Flower
One of the standout features of our CBG Hemp Cultivars is their extremely low THC content. Unlike many common Cannabis strains, our CBG varieties are engineered to produce <0.3% THC when cultivated, harvested, and processed properly.
However, it’s important to note that these cultivars have primarily been selected for temperate climates. In subtropical or tropical regions, THC levels may exceed 0.3%. Some states or countries facing this challenge permit up to 1.0% THC, so we recommend consulting with a legal expert before introducing new strains in your area. Additionally, these CBD hemp cultivars are often planted during specific seasons and harvested early to ensure compliance with THC regulations.
Understanding CBG Hemp Cultivars vs. Strains
A cultivar is a specifically selected and standardized line of plants bred for distinct purposes—essentially a “cultivated variety.” According to Wikipedia, a cultivar is defined as “plants selected for desirable characteristics that are maintained during propagation.” It represents the foundational classification category of cultivated plants in the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (ICNCP).
Currently, there are only a few high CBG hemp seed producers in the market. These breeders have rapidly selected, refined, and scaled up the production of CBG-rich hemp seeds, but they are still in the early stages of development. As such, these offerings should be viewed as selections rather than fully stabilized cultivars, with further refinement expected over the coming seasons.
With the growing interest in CBG-rich strains, we anticipate a plethora of new varieties entering the market in the near future.
CBG Hemp Varieties in 2024
In 2024, the market continues to witness the release of stabilized high CBG hemp seeds and the planting of thousands of acres dedicated to producing CBG Hemp Flower and CBG Hemp Biomass. These will be used for extracting CBG Hemp Oil and refined products such as CBG Distillate and CBG Isolate.
Leading CBG Hemp Seed Breeders
One of the most prominent CBG hemp seed breeders we follow at Rhizo Sciences is Oregon CBD Seeds. Founded by Seth and Eric Crawford, this company has dedicated years to refining hemp-compliant cannabis genetics, ensuring high-quality medical hemp that performs well in outdoor environments.
Their innovations have significantly advanced our understanding of hemp breeding, particularly through the application of modern plant scientific selection tools such as DNA sequencing and marker-assisted breeding.
